Biometrically anchored digital identity credentials that work across state boundaries are set to become the national standard, 23rd of June the Data and Digital Ministers Meeting, unveiled the new National Strategy for Identity Resilience agreed to by Commonwealth, state and territory ministers. Governments have agreed to achieve interoperability between digital ID systems and credentials. The National Identity Proofing Guidelines will be updated in the next 12 months. Government will further develop the Credential Protection Register developed in response to the Optus data breach, a 'Mobile Phone Trust Score" system will be developed to help prevent fraud, allowing telecommunications providers to assign trust scores to mobile phone numbers based on risk factors such as sim swaps, tenure of phone plan and virtual private numbers.
Facial recognition laws could be reintroduced alongside new digital identity legislation. The Face Verification Service design can be found on the Australian Government Architecture Website. The redacted Strategic Leadership Group freedom of information indicates the government could introduce a new bill for the national roll out, the exposure draft is expected by September, there is discussion of a digital specific regulator. The World Economic Forum's governance framework for the responsible use of facial recognition in law enforcement investigations addresses the need for a set of concrete guidelines to ensure trustworthy and safe use of technology.
Salesforce contributes to the national digital framework through the human service deliverables such as the Department of Health and Aged Care and the National Disability Insurance Scheme.
